I started with a quick build of a Kings treasury. It was used for my blog about details and since my daughter liked it so much, I started building a castle around it. This blog takes you on a journey through the rational creation of a rather big lego castle.
This MOC will incorporate 2 different types of "ease of play" designs. Both hinged bases and lift off roof's will be part of the setup. It is a large castle, and because I do not have thousands of each color brick, I have to use different colors and build styles. The result will be a castle that looks like it started small, and got additions over time as the kingdom grew and the king gained more power in his lands.

At this point the "castle" looks like this: A green base-plate hinged to a multi-level Grey rock base-plate. An idea of the size and scope is beginning to form. And I realize... I need more Lego!!!!! AHHHHHHH
And thus, the additions begin.....
Every castle needs a kitchen right? I switched to the light tan, and dark red bricks for this. Seemed like the right colors for a lime washed wall and medieval fireplace/oven/cook hearth. The roof can be lifted off. | But wait, where does the king sleep??? On the 3rd floor above his treasury of course! Complete with balcony overlooking his lands. I used brown for this part... Wooden upper floor. |
And what is a castle without it's main gate and Outer Bailey?
All the kings horses
and all the kings men,
Playing at last in the castle again!

A few details to note: There is an archery range off to the side where Merida and a couple men are practicing. as well as a water fountain, and a small pig pen. To the other side of the gate are a couple "bad guys" lurking behind the big tree stump.
